Corrie A-Z: P is for Polish people

Ivan.jpgIn the craving to be 'representative', British soaps are often criticised for their depiction of ethnic minorities, but did you know that Coronation Street's first cast included an immigrant worker? Ivan Cheveski has already been the subject of a Corrieblog analysis, yet the news that modern-day Corrie would feature immigrant workers at the factory seemed to a big concern indeed. The common link between these characters is that they are originally from Poland, having moved to the UK for better job prospects and better pay. Wiki Dankowska is currently the only Pole in the Corrie cast, but she's not been seen for donkeys months! Bring her back!

Should they bring Ivan Cheveski back as Wiki's granddad?

Bring back Linda & Ivan, and maybe Elsie's Grandson Paul, he would have a family of his own now!

and they could mention and have phone calls with Elsie out in Portugal, she would be about 81 or 82 years old now!, because it was never actually mentioned in the series that she has died.

Coronation Street toyed with the idea of bringing back the Tanners a while ago, when the programme was in crisis during the pre-Hillman years. Personally, I am happy for the Tanners to stay as one of the golden families of Corrie, rather than trying what could end up being a failed return just to satisfy our urges for historic references!
