I'm very sad that things have turned out so badly for Hayley and Christian. When Hayley first met her son, in the record shop that he owns, he seemed quite a darling: kind, gentle, respectful of the frumpy-looking woman flicking through the Pixies CDs. Physically, he looks amazingly like Hayley, and on first appearances, when he gave his new-found "auntie" a gentle kiss on her cheek, it seemed that he'd inherited her niceness, too.
Christian and Hayley could have been like that other great Coronation Street partnership, Emily Bishop and Spider Nugent (MartinHancock) whom Christian also resembles.
It would have been interesting to see him and the Croppers getting to know each other, and see the effect he would have on the Croppers' cosy lives. He runs a record shop, so he must be interested in music. I would have loved to see The Croppers Do Glastonbury. Maybe Christian would share Roy's interest in green issues - again, Spider and Emily saving the Red Rec come to mind. Then there are ample opportunities for romantic interests for Christian. How would his parent Hayley react to her son and Becky getting together? Or a romance with Mel Kebab could have set up a rivalry between two fast food dynasties that would be like West Side Story on cobbles.
But it looks like none of those things will ever happen now, and that's a shame because Christian could have been a great character. Will Corrie be able to rehabilitate him in the future? They did it for Becky, after all, who went from lying thief to diamond-in-the-rough. I hope the door stays open for him.
