Christian - what a waste

I'm very sad that things have turned out so badly for Hayley and Christian. When Hayley first met her son, in the record shop that he owns, he seemed quite a darling: kind, gentle, respectful of the frumpy-looking woman flicking through the Pixies CDs. Physically, he looks amazingly like Hayley, and on first appearances, when he gave his new-found "auntie" a gentle kiss on her cheek, it seemed that he'd inherited her niceness, too.

Christian and Hayley could have been like that other great Coronation Street partnership, Emily Bishop and Spider Nugent (MartinHancock) whom Christian also resembles.

It would have been interesting to see him and the Croppers getting to know each other, and see the effect he would have on the Croppers' cosy lives. He runs a record shop, so he must be interested in music. I would have loved to see The Croppers Do Glastonbury. Maybe Christian would share Roy's interest in green issues - again, Spider and Emily saving the Red Rec come to mind. Then there are ample opportunities for romantic interests for Christian. How would his parent Hayley react to her son and Becky getting together? Or a romance with Mel Kebab could have set up a rivalry between two fast food dynasties that would be like West Side Story on cobbles.

But it looks like none of those things will ever happen now, and that's a shame because Christian could have been a great character. Will Corrie be able to rehabilitate him in the future? They did it for Becky, after all, who went from lying thief to diamond-in-the-rough. I hope the door stays open for him.

  • I think this storyline is completely unrealistic. I don't like it and I think they are just trying to find an excuse for a storyline for the Croppers. As I've said before, there isn't one Corrie storylin I haven't stuck by yet, but this one completely rewrites Corrie history, and is swcraping the bottom of the barrel.

Sorry, I knw it's not like me to go on like this, but it is. And now Roy and Hayley are in trouble because of it. I liked happy Roy and Hayley.

Although I have not seen the episodes yet, I hope that they will bring Christian back when Hayley returns. Good opportunity for the script writers to show the effects that transgendered/transexual issues have on their children. I am sure that there are hundreds if not thousands of kids out there struggling to deal with this issue.

Maybe Christian was really born Christine and she had a sex change to be like her Dad. Just about as daft as some of these story lines.

It isnt the last we have seen of him guys ;)

there'sno reason why he wouldn't return when Hayley comes back after her break - the storyline doesn't need to end right now.

  • El Sitana

What point would there be in expanding the Christian character though if hayley is about to disappear off to Africa?

  • Tara Chuck

I think Christian is one of those short term characters just brought in for a few weeks for a certain storyline, like Sean's Dad.

  • Grove

He was a good character. I have a feeling that he won't return unfortunately.

I really don't understand why Roy should be so against him. At the end of the day, Christian is Hayley's child, that should be all that matters. And I don't buy the excuse that Hayley had told Roy she was a virgin when they met and therefore lied to him.

What is it with the rude posts on this site just lately (charlie stubbs)! I hope they do bring him back. I did notice that when he hit Hayley he immediately went to help her but then started to cry and went off. It was a really well acted scene and I think he did regret hitting her so hopefully his character will be developed further

I wasn't saying it wasn't natural for him to freak out, I was saying he had the potential to be a good character.

  • Charlie Stubbs

What a load of bull, are you seriously telling me that if you found out that your long lost dad was now a woman you wouldn't freak out?! Get a life you lot!

You're so right. It would have been nice to have seen Christian come round to accepting Hayley and get to know her. I don't know if Roy would ever accept him but he might, grudgingly. It was excellent casting too, the lad looks like he could be Hayley's son! I suppose the door is always open for a return when Julie H. returns next year though.
