Boxer Ricky Hatton to have permanent Corrie place

Manchester-born boxer Ricky Hatton MBE is to become a permanent fixture in Coronation Street.

However, he won't be swapping his boxing gloves for acting lessons. Instead a picture of him which has been signed 'to Liz' and a pair of his gloves will be featured in the bar of the Rovers Return, according to the Press Association. They quote "a source" as saying: "Ricky's a Manchester lad born and bred. Producers love a local element."

In another Corrie connection, Hatton received his MBE in this year's New Year's Honours, at the same time as former Corrie legend Johnny Briggs (Mike Baldwin) received his CBE. I wonder if they managed a chat when they went to the Palace to collect their awards?
