You knew it had to happen. A major star retires and needs a little retirement bonus so she's sold her story to the Sun and the Mirror this week. Liz Dawn's story is in today's Sun and there's another "exclusive" in the Mirror here. There are lots of fab photos on the Sun interview along with her frank story about how emphysema has made acting on Coronation Street these past few years a real struggle. She finally quit smoking five years ago but the damage had already been done. The Mirror delves into her life, struggles with alcohol and how it affected her marriage with excerpts from her biography, now out of print, but you might find it on eBay or at your local library. She was hospitalized for pneumonia last year and she tells about how her scenes have had to be rewritten when she couldn't move around much.Liz always thought she'd play Vera until her dying day. Her final scenes will be screened in January. It's very sad that she's had to retire with ill health.
