Corrie's Sue Nicholls - the Swinging Sixties starlet

992782671718_suenicols.jpgWe're always stumbling across interesting photographs at Corrieblog, and this one made me smile no end. It's Coronation Street actress Sue Nicholls on the cover of her 1968 single "Where Will You Be?". The song was released during Sue's time on Midlands soap, Crossroads, where she played warbling-waitress Marilyn Gates. Although she reached #17 in the UK charts, I have yet to hear Sue sing. I'll have to keep my eyes on YouTube and eBay Gum.

It's always our Rita who gets the credit for singing on Corrie, so perhaps Rita and Audrey could start themselves up a little Weatherfield duet? [Ben]

  • I remember Brett Falcon, Dilly Daydream. Might even blog about him in a day or two. Keep your eyes peeled! ;-)

  • Dilly Daydream

Oh, and he lodged with Elsie Tanner, not Minnie Caldwell. But I think I'm flogging a dead horse here, no-one else in the world can remember him!

EUREKA!! It was 1963 & it was Walter Potts, aka Brett Falcon. And the actor who played him, Christopher Sandford, had a Top 20 hit with his song from the programme "Not Too Little, Not Too Much".

    Anyone remember him now?

There is a much better source than Ebay for old, vinyl records called GEMM for Global Electronic Music Marketplace. If you scroll down on this page, http://www1.gemm.com/c/search.pl?field=TITLE&wild=where+will+you+be&Go%21.x=0&Go%21.y=0&Go%21=Search you will see several copies of the single available at prices ranging from $4.25 to $307.80. Quite a range.

Re my previous post, the name Brett keeps coming to mind....anyone know who I mean? I was only young at the time and this pop singer was really cool.

What was the name of that male singer in the sixties, I think he lived with Minnie Caldwell, and I'm sure he released a single on the back of his character. It's in my memory banks but I can't quite recall....I can see his face in my mind's eye though.

  • Sue

Ah but then Rita was a professional singer in her younger days, while Audrey was a hairdresser.

May I suggest another theme for the editors? Musical Corrie Characters? There's Rita, Ena, Ernie, Deirdre etc.
