Good news for fans of Vernon Tomlin. The Mirror reports today that actor Ian Reddington, who plays Coronation Street's Vernon Tomlin has signed up to stay for another year on the Street. Actress Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky Grainger, has alo signed a 12 month deal. A Corrie insider told the paper: "Both of them are loved and therefore have been given these significant contracts, rather than short-term ones. It demonstrates that the bosses think they work as important integral characters in the show. So it follows there are big plans ahead for the two of them and we believe viewers will love what is in store."

Glad Vernon is staying, he is a good character. I actually felt really sorry for him last night when the two tone temptress was discovered to have been at it with the god awful dray person.

Why do Corrie's men so often seem to be either deadbeats or just plain clueless? Whenever a character is introduced who has intelligence or ambition he is cast in the role of a spiv/wide boy/crook/charlatan ....whatever. Those with some moxie and ambition should be the role models, not gormless deaddbeats.
Good news. I do love Vernon. Such a calm character in the madness of the street. Kelly is also good and now needs developing as we don't see much of her these days. They should have introduced her family instead of the Mortons. Nothing to say it would have been any better but would surely have been more interesting. There's a space for a new 'family from hell' now Les has been given the boot and Cilla's exit is imminent.
I agree totally Graeme. Becky's family were rumoured to be arriving wern't they? Bringing in a a family in one whole swoop rarely is successful. The Battersbys and Harrises were the only ones to work like that. With the Baldwins and Connors they came in a sections. Whereas the dreadful Mortons are crashing and burning spectacularly.
I am delighted that they have both signed on and i want to see more of Becky. Vernon is superb.
This is excellent news! I think Vernon and Becky are two of the most promising of recent characters to join the street. I find both interesting and very funny. I get excited when each are in a scene.
Tonights episode showed a more vulnerable side to Vernon which I liked, I felt really sorry for him. I think he's so sweet all the time with Liz like when he bought the Liz and Vern mugs.
Becky just cracks me up with her lines and the way she winds up nearly everyone in the shop and her loyalty to Roy and Hayley is really touching!
Two of my least favourite actors. Vernon totally rubs me the wrong way and I don't care for Kelly.
so katherine kelly sign up for another year what storyline do they give her only that she helping hayley out find her a son could not fetch family in the show or boyfriend on the street like liam no just working same characters all time that why i think corrie boring at moment eastenders is better let me know your opinion about this.
