Monday Moan: Joanne's immigration woes, what was the point?

Comments (9)

JOANNE.jpgIt's time for another Monday Moan as this has really got my goat. Just what was the purpose of having knicker-stitcher Joanne Jackson face all the hoo-hah of being deported if none of it was followed through? One day she was carted off to a deportation centre, the next she was back sewing gussets at Underworld. At the moment this is Coronation Street in a nutshell, for me at least. The cast is too big (again) and there is no time for any sort of character development. Storylines seem to just scratch the surface. [Ben]

I completely agree. It is pissing me off to be honest and i think Corrie is in a bit of a rut at the moment. With all the spoilers for upcoming storylines i am really worrying.

As for Joanne, she was meant to be leaving. Thought she was axed. Joanne is a lovely girl and has potential but we simply havn't seen it - AT ALL.

The Corrie execs need to sort this out because quite frankly the show at the moment is not good enough.

Slightly OT here but has anyone noticed the MASSIVE ear rings she has been wearing this past week. They look like she might need a crane to hoist them into place.

I completely agree with what has been said. The cast is huge and nothing is followed up properly. For example, the stuff with Doreen and Rita seems to have just dissapeared. I would have much rather seen stories with them than some we are currently seeing.

I am not enjoying the current stories. I love the stuff with Carla (she is a star!) and like Sean and Violet but other than that It's not good.

Get rid of a few characters before you bring in yet more new ones.

It's the same with other stories too. I mean what's the point of Vicky, or Ryan? Where is the story with Fizz and John going, or the story with Tyrone and Molly? Or the story with Liz and Derek and Linda. And why is Vera still sitting on her backside when she only has a sprained ankle? Another waste of a storyline.

I agree there are to many cast members now in Corrie at the moment I can think of at lease six who should go as I do not see the point of them in the street. Went did the likes of Molly and Tyrone had a major story last yes I know that this moment they are helping the Duckworths but that only to bring Paul the Duckworths grandson into the programme. Then there is the cases of most of Morton family, Kirk, Dev and his daughter. Kelly and Doreen.

Corrie does seem to had lost its way in particluar the longest storyline ever David Platt I wish they knock at on the head as soon as possible because I for one to not see the point of this, where is this leading to ? there as to be a conclusion to this storyline otherwise what is the point. This story line should have reach its end after the Tracy court case where the writers of Corrie had a missed chance as David should have been charge with prejury after lying in court.

What has happened to Ashley and Clare? This storyline has just seemed to stop mid-way? Rita also seems to have disappeared from the planet.

What was the point of bringing Joanne back (she wasnt really missed) only for her to be written out when Carla fires her this week?

I think the whole storyline with joanne was simply because she wanted a break from filming and gave them very short notice so the storywriters didn't have time to think of a great storyline.

I agree, some of these stories seem to have been thrown into the programme just for the sake of giving us something, ANYTHING to watch...

like the death at the factory- nothing ever happened to that, it was as if they just threw it in while the main stories were on hold.

Joanne's refugee status could've been the basis of an original contemporary issue, but instead its dealt with quickly and bumped off to make way for more Peacock tedium and the umpteenth retread of the stalker storyline. The writers seemed to be getting lazy and are making the wrong moves all the time. There's a large cast but too many of them are being underused, they seem to prefer to concentrate on same characters for every storyline.
So many of the existing characters could be rounded off and send the storylines in new and different directions, why not give Lloyd, or Kelly for instance a decent storyline and see where that takes us. There's just no character exploration nor consistency anymore, characters are being shoe-horned into storylines rather than the other way round which has always been Corrie's strength.
Is it complacency or fear that is driving this approach??

Things are just about holding together at the moment but at this rate I can see the show having real problems a year or so down the line.
They should sort it now before it's too late but on this evidence I doubt they will.
