It’s time we saluted one of the stalwarts of Coronation Street, Mrs Emily Bishop. She’s much underused these days, is our Emily but in the past she’s had more than her fair share of excitement. Click through below to find out more.

Emily thwarted Richard Hillman’s attempt to kill her, campaigned up a tree on the Red Rec, forgave Ernie’s killer, let nephew Spider smoke dope in her front room and she manages to live with Norris without going mad. I think Emily is great!! One of my favourite characters. I loved it when she and Spider protested about cutting down the red rec.

I really want her to get another story. I thought she was brilliant in the Ed (Ernest's murderer) storyline.

Unfortunately since then she hasn't done a lot.

Yes! Bring back Freda. A new storyline for Emily that involves Freda would be good.

I remember the Arnold Swain story. It was great and gave Emily one of her best storylines. It is never mentioned now by anyone on the show. In fact when Emily and others talk about the past etc there is never even a reference to her bigamist husband. It's as if it never happened. I think that the Corrie writers have fotgotten all about it.

The name of her husband was Arnold Swain.

Yes Emily married a bigamist whose name escapes me but she met him when she and Dreary were running the secretarial agency from their front room when Tracyluv was just a tot. I like Emily and agree she is underused. Wish she would meet a nice old boy at one of her church bazaars.

I agree Mark. It's another of those things that I don't see the *point* of. Freda was great and something different from the usual, yet Corrie would rather flog the Mortons to death than try something different.

Hurrah Miss Nugent! It was brilliant that she ran away for a dirty weekend with a Czech builder in the 60's. Free love and all that!

Id like to see Emilys niece Freda back in the programme, she was a very good character and worked well with Emily especially when they wound Norris up
