Corrie A-Z: B is for Blackpool

Comments (3)

Blackpool029.jpgBlackpool is a very popular holiday spot in the north west of England. The Illuminations, the donkeys on the beach, and the Pleasure Beach keep people going back even today! Coronation Street has featured Blackpool almost back to the beginning of the show in the 1960s when the gang would take a charabanc to Blackpool for a day out or a night viewing the illuminations. Elsie had an assignation with Bill Gregory there and Harry and Concepta Hewitt got engaged on the bus on the way back.

blackpoolworldofcoro.JPGMore infamous, of course, was the time when Rita disappeared, on the run from Alan Bradley and ended up in Blackpool where Alan was run down by a tram chasing her. Sally, Kevin and Rita took young Rosie there for a holiday while Sal was pregger with Sophie. Gary rescued a lad from the surf and ended up moving to Blackpool with the lad's mum. Lisa Duckworth's parents lived and still live there with little Tommy so Jack and Vera visit often and do you remember when Vera and Norris were in a dance competition in Blackpool in the big Tower ballroom?

There used to be an attraction in Blackpool called the World of Coronation Street but sadly, it's closed now. You can still see some Corrie exhibits at the waxworks though.

Keep checking back for more Corrie A-Z over the next few months!

Vera and Jack's last visit was memorable. Jack doing the runner and then turning up again and it was all very romantic and fairly moving on the bench.

Seems to me that took place in a different seaside town, where they had gone for a "dirty weekend" before they got married or where they had their honeymoon. Or am i thinking of a different storyline?

haha I just moved there!
I keep seeing the 'Alan Bradley' tram going up and down
