Deirdre Barlow appreciation day
![]()
Just because I thought it was about high time we had one, I dedicate today as Deirdre Barlow appreciation day. She’s an odd one, is Deirdre, isn't she? Somehow she's not one of the strong/vulnerable classic Coronation Street women but she's something apart from that and very special to watch. Whatever we think of Deirdre’s disastrous choices of men (and Ken!) you’ve got to admit it, she deserves a day of appreciation. Wear your Deirdre t-shirt with pride.

What an excellent though - you are certainly right in saying that Dreary is something different from the classic Corrie woman. In the 1970s Deirdre almost bordered on being a feminist, and many scripts would see her making comments against the chauvinism of the male residents. This all changed when she got with Ken and Deirdre became a bit of a dullard, but in spite of this she's still great.
