Ex-Coronation Street stars - Kathy Staff

As the month of May draws to a close, we also reach the end of our exploration of Coronation Street's former actors and actresses. Today's actress was only with the programme for a matter of months before she left to pursue other projects - another project that would make her very famous. Kathy Staff was cast as Vera Hopkins, the mother of the Hopkins family who moved into the Corner Shop in 1974. In 1973 Kathy had joined the cast of a comedy playhouse called Last of the Summer Wine as the infamous Nora Batty and made the decision that keeping up the two roles was too much for her and thus we said goodbye to Vera. Kathy has also had roles in Crossroads and Freddie Star but is best known as the grumpy old Nora. [Elsie Tanner]
