Corrie behind-the-scenes heroes - Daran Little

little.jpgDaran Little is perhaps the best known person from behind-the-scenes at Coronation Street. Starting at Granada in 1989 as the Street's archivist and historian, Daran spent 17 years working for Coronation Street, eventually becoming part of the writing team in 2000. Daran's scripts were known for being laden with references to Corrie of yesteryear, with some of my favourite lines including "You smell like Elsie Tanner on VE day!" (Vera to Jack) and "Oh Kevin, what would Mrs Ogden say?" (Sal to Kevin). Daran is also the key "Corrie academic" having written numerous Coronation Street books that range from works of fiction to pieces that are solely analytical. Daran decided to test himself with other projects and in 2006 left Granada to write the Channel 4 series Hollyoaks in the City. The series was not recommisioned and Daran now works on the writing team for Hollyoaks. I would love to see Daran return to Corrie sometime soon, his expertise and love for t'Street are very much missed. [Elsie Tanner]

Daran was a fine writer and you knew when you saw his name on the credits, it would be a very good episode. He often threw in little bits of Corrie history in throwaway lines too as he knows it so well.
