A while back I blethered on about making a Coronation Street period drama set in 1902, based on a book by Daran Little and Bill Hill. Weatherfield Life is a fantastic read and quite educational too! For those who have not read it I would very much recommend that you pop to your local charity shop or have a look on eBay Gum because this book is a little gem! It is a celebration of 90 years of the fictional Coronation Street and charts the lives of its residents from the construction in 1902 until (what was!) modern day 1992. The book also ties many historical and social aspects which give much realism as well as some maps of Weatherfield past and present. Go on, have a search for it - it has a lovely cover photo too!
