Corrie's greatest shopkeepers?

Comments (4)

Devendra_and_drearBrowsing around th'Internet, I read on LifeStyle Extra that there is a nationwide campaign here in the UK searching for the country's best corner shop.  As part of the search, a list of the Top Ten TV shopkeepers has been compiled, with three of the ten coming from our very own Coronation Street.  In at nine in the list is Queen of the Kabin, Rita Sullivan, followed by the mighty Devster at number four.  The highest-ranking Corrie character is the colourful Reg Holdsworth who is third in the survey.  As we have Maggie Clegg as our unsung hero of the day, this got me thinking about who Corrieblog readers think are the best shopkeepers and shop assistants to have appeared over the years?  For me, Mavis from the Kabin has to be up there as well as Leonard Swindley from Swindley's Emporium. Shame that the lovely Alf Roberts isn't somewhere on the 'official' list. [Elsie Tanner]

Deirdre was a long time shop assistant and what Deirdre got up to, oh my! I remember Brendan Scott who tried to turn the corner shop into a victorian emporium, complete with a rusty old bicycle for deliveries. He made the staff were big floppy hats and pinnies. When Nicky Tilsley decided he had had enough of riding the old clapper to do deliveries, Brendan did a delivery run. Hours later, in the shop, he dropped dead of a heart attack.

Aaaaaaaagggghhhhhh!! Scary photo of Dev and 'Diddery Did' together. There should be a 18 certificate for this item!

I liked Florrie Lindley, Maggie Clegg & Renee Roberts- they were always there serving,Gossiping, listening to customers and giving advice,I also think Lionel Petty and Alf Roberts were the same- Classic Characters!

Oh do you remember Brendan Scott. I always remember his exit scene of him collapsing in the shop.
