Today, Thursday March 8 is International Women’s Day, 2007. If you’re a woman, give yourself a hug, go on, and treat yourself to something nice. To celebrate the day here on Corrieblog, we’re having a look at some of Coronation Street’s best battleaxes. Who would you vote for as your favourite one?  Was it any of these favourites of ours? Ena Sharples, harridan in a hairnet. Blanche Hunt, scourge of the Street. Ivy Tilsley, mother-in-law from hell. Annie Walker, pub manager with pretensions. Hilda Ogden, cruella in curlers. Vera Duckworth, saucy swamp-duck. Janice Battersby, gob almighty. Cilla Battersby-Brown and her tanfastic scowl. Gail Platt, taking up the baton from Ivy Tilsley.

Currently Blanch Hunt is queen of the Battleaxes. From the past I think Maul Grimes woul also qualify, with Reg especially she could curl his (non existing) hair with her tongue.

Lol yeh it got to be Ena Sharples (hated when she and Elsie row because she mean to Elsie!!)

    Ena Sharples

  • definitely Ena Sharples for me - in real life you would be frightened of a person like that, and yet still want their respect. She had strength as well as the battleax quality.
