Corrie women in the dock - Kelly Crabtree

The trial of Madam Barlow continues down Weatherfield way, and we've already heard about some of Coronation Street's residents from yesteryear who have faced judge and jury, such as Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner.  Now it's time for someone a bit more recent: Kelly Crabtree.  When ne'er-do-well Becky Grainger turned up in 2006, we viewers found out that the tarty Kelly had a secret past - she had been in prison.  Click below to read more about Kelly Crabtree getting on the wrong side of the law.

12_may_2Becky became obsessed with her former cellmate and set about buying Kelly expensive gifts as a way of 'thanking' her for her friendship. Barmy Becky even moved into Kelly's home and set about wooing ever-absent taxi driver, Lloyd away from Kelly.  The final straw came when Becky framed Kelly for a spate of thefts at Underworld.  Eagle-eyes viewers may remember that Kelly was arrested by Weatherfield's friendly neighbourhood detectives (pictured) and also questioned by them after Ronnie Clayton knocked down an OAP.  Kelly was charged on a number of counts of theft after the stolen items were found in her locker and was shunned by her workmates as she had "stolen" from most of them.

11_june_2_2 Kelly appeared in court and was advised by her solicitor to plead guilty to the crime as the sentence would be less harsh considering her previous offences.  Kelly struggled to come to a decision as she knew that she was innocent but pleading guilty would make it seem to her friends and colleagues that she was in fact guilty.  In the end Kelly went with the guilty plea and received a two-year suspended sentence and a monthly visit to a probation officer. Poor, cow! [Elsie Tanner]
