Memorable Coronation Street weddings

Another nod to Valentine's day celebrates weddings. Sort of. Most weddings on any soap, including Coronation Street, don't always run very smoothly.

There's usually some hitch (pun intended) or glitch. Some of the more memorable include:

Mike and Linda got married in an elaborate country hotel but the best man, Mark, was thrown out on his ear. Mike found out Mark and Linda had an affair. He married her anyway, disowned Mark and Roy Cropper ended up standing in as the best man.

Who can forget Claire Casey running down the road in her dress along with little Joshua, kitted out as Spiderman on Christmas Day?

Roy and Hayley's wedding was side tracked by the media who were salivating at the thought of "two men" getting married. They had their ceremony in the cafe surrounded by all their friends, which is the most important part anyway!

Tracy Barlow married Robert Preston but he almost didn't make the ceremony. His mates locked him in a shipping container after his stag do the night before. He reappeared on time but the best man didn't so Tracy used Deirdre's wedding ring for the ceremony.

Terry Duckworth used his romantic church wedding to young Lisa as an excuse to escape the prison guards, much to Vera's mortification and Lisa's broken heart.

Mavis and Derek jilted each other their first wedding!  It took years for them to reconnect and marry again, this time for good!

That wasn't the only jilting through the years. Emily Nugent jilted her groom to be, Leonard Swindley in 1964. It was a leap year and spinster Emily had always fancied her boss but in the end, she realized they really weren't suited and couldn't go through with it. She later found true love with Ernest Bishop though he was killed by robbers.

Last summer, Jason jilted Sarah on their wedding day.

Karen and Steve MacDonald's remarriage (on Valentine's Day, 2004) was ruined by the appearance of Tracy Barlow who only wanted to get Amy back from the Croppers. The truth of Amy's parentage came out, Karen and Tracy scrapped but Karen married Steve anyway. She didn't know the half of it, and when she found out that Tracy had tried to sabotage the wedding by cancelling the photographer and venue, she doorcrashed Amy's Christening and beat ten bells out of Tracy for revenge.

Ashley and Maxine's wedding was lovely. It went off without a hitch after UberBride Maxine bullied everyone along the way to make sure she had a perfect day. The day wasn't happy for everyone, however. Judy Mallet died that day in her back yard while her husband Gary was fulfilling his duties as best man and Sharon Gaskill was attempting suicide.

Last but not least, dear old Fred Elliot died on his wedding day. A real tragedy, I said a real tragedy, that!
