Leanne Battersby's shocking Street storyline

Leanne_battersby_9 Leanne Battersby's going to return to the Street with a surprising storyline, when she admits to making a living as a prostitute while she was in Spain!

The Daily Mirror says that Corrie bosses are bracing themselves for a backlash over the story. A Coronation Street source told the paper: "It's one of our racier storylines and we believe it will be a ratings winner, sparking much debate. Leanne's always been a feisty and sexy girl who could fall off the rails. She cannot see anything wrong in being an escort girl - if the money is there, she's up for it." Leanne (Jane Danson) will reveal all to her step-mum Janice Battersby (Vicky Entwistle). The Corrie insider added: "Janice has to accept her daughter's choice and will even start to act as her minder and secretary." Er, don't they mean pimp? And Leanne also sets her sights on factory boss Liam Connor (Rob James-Collier).

    I had a similar reaction as Anne (from Vancouver) re Leanne. Hopefully, she (Leanne) could survive on 50,000 pounds for at least a year without resorting to prostitution yet again. Time for Leanne to move on with her life. At times in the storylines, I think I've seen moments of Leanne showing the other side of herself which has somewhat of a more decent-seeming side to her. Maybe it is time for that side of her to be played up more.

    I too agree with Ben. Danny gave her 50,000 pounds to keep quiet! She doesn't have to do this! We already had this storyline when she reappeared on the street. I too am glad to see Leanne back on the cobbles but please, oh please, give her a better story. Let's see her move forward and do something with her life!

  • I agree with Ben, it's in character for Leanne to sleep around for cash - but surely she didn't need to?

    Well I understand it...and I don't. Firstly, I was under the impression that Danny Baldwin had given Leanne a nice pay off to leave Weatherfield and leave him alone. Surely she wasn't in such a difficult position that she had to resort to prostitution to make ends meet?

  • "Bracing for a backlash" sounds a bit farfetched. The two first comments are right - it is not surprising, and Les ran into Leanne working at a strip club when she last returned to the show. And really, we (the regular fans) don't need a procession of shocking stories to enjoy the Street.

  • at least it's a logical step for this chracter. They are right, Leanne is the type to do it if there was money to be made

    Not really a stretch for this character is it? I can see it. I can't really see her keeping it up for long once she's back on the Street though. Not with all those nosy neighbours around. Glad she's coming back though. I like the character in spite of it all.
