Jenny Platt to leave Corrie

Comments (26)

Violet_short_hair_4 Jenny Platt, who plays Coronation Street barmaid Violet Wilson, is leaving the show. The Sunday People reports that after three years Jenny has taken the decision to leave as she fears her character has nowhere to go. It's a real shame, and it's something we've wondered about here on Corrieblog before. The paper says that Jenny plans to quit when her contract runs out next March.

Will anyone miss Violet Wilson?

I agree with what most people are saying, I think the character of Violet Wilson has great potential but the writers of the show haven’t been providing her with story lines that are drawing in the whole audience who watch the show. I personally love her role in the show and her as a character has drawn me as a younger viewer into the show other younger people I have spoken to love Violet and we will all miss her and don’t want her to leave. When she does the leave show I know it will definitely impact my experience when watching the show as I will miss her and I think it is a big loss. I wish Jenny Platt all the best and hope that this wont be the last time I will see the actress on our TV screens.

I hope they bring back Danny Baldwin. He was a joker and he's my favourite male character.

Shame she's leaving, she was the best thing about Corrie, I won't be watching it after nxt March thats for sure.

Hope she gets a part in a film, not a British film but a good film lol

Jenny Platt is obviously an extremely talented actress it's just the writers have given her nothing to do.

I won't watch if/ when she goes, Violet could be a potentially great character, but is painfully wasted, I just don't understand why?

On my previous message I couldn't think of quite the word for Violet's face but I think she has an angelic face ... keep her. I think there is still plenty of room for another decent-type person on the show especially in her age grouping. She seems kind and caring and that works with her angelic face. I'm sure there are storylines that could be written for her that would explore her potential and make good viewing that would help keep up the contrasts in characters and relate to the real world.

Although we are over 9 months behind (and I'm beginning to think it is closer to a year behind again)than over in Britain.... and I know a lot can happen in the show in a year's time and that can put us at somewhat disadvantage position in making more relevant and up-to-date comments, at this point I personally would like the character of Violet (played by Jenny Platt) to stay. There does seem to be a quality about Violet (and Violet's face and gestures) that will be hard to replace. There is just something about her. Keep her!

I'm glad to hear the character of Danny Baldwin (played by Bradley Walsh) is returning to the show. Bradley Walsh fits in so well as the character of Danny Baldwin - he's a natural on the show - or at least from what I think I'm seeing from the shows almost a year behind.... that is unless Danny Baldwin became a completely horrible character over the past year shows that we have yet to see! ?

  • Please can they just bring Bradley Walsh back as a new character? Say a lovable Cockney comic trying to relaunch his career in the North West? Oh hang on.

  • Janet

I won't miss her. I liked her when she was with Jason, but her character has been nothing but miserable ever since. I can see where that would get old for an actor.

I Love Violet and Jenny is a amazing actress it would really upset me if she were to leave as she is my favourite actress on corronation street however i feel she needs a big storyline to reveal her true potential i would really miss her if she was to leave please don't leave :'( :'(

  • sophie

I dont mind Violet, but I wont miss her- she seems to be one of those characters who unfortunatly, have nothing to offer us.

  • Willz

Lol I hope Jenny comes over here in New Zealand cause she would suite a role as a Nurse on our TV show!!

  • Tim

Is Bradley Walsh really coming back? I can't say I'm best pleased about that but I'm not angry either.

  • I am sorry to hear that she is going. Perhaps she comes across as too sane to be believable for some of the bizarre stories that the writers have been cooking up. She always came across as decent and intelligent, with a vulnerable side. I agree with Peter that a year seems a long time for an actor to stay if they are not happy.

  • Peter

I am neither thrilled nor excited. I can feel a yay or nay coming on. What happened to that last week? I realised not many people replied in the last one, but i missed it!

  • Over on Digital Spy there's a quote today from "a Corrie source" who denies Jenny is leaving Corrie "this summer" (which isn't what the news story in the People said anyway). The Corrie source says that she's signed up until March next year, which is as reported in the Sunday People.

  • Peter, thanks for that but I'm not that thrilled about Danny Baldwin returning... is anyone else?

  • Steph

Really, Peter?! That would be fantastic news!

  • Ruth

This is a shame. I will miss her - she has a fantastic vulnerable look in her face that is really hard to perfect.

There's sooo much they could have done with her plot-wise. They've missed a trick here, in my opinion. And I don't understand why she thinks there's no-where for her to go .... there's plenty she could add to the drama

(I secretly have a fantastic plotline up my sleeve that's never been done on a soap before - she would have been the perfect character for it!!!)

  • Peter

The NOTW also today revealed the return of Bradley Walsh to coincide with the departure of Paul Connor. Breaking news for you!

  • Cal

Shame on the writers for not tapping into Miss Platt's acting talent. They are losing a very valuable asset.

  • Mary

Darn - I liked her character but again the writer's forgot or failed to develop and use her story potential in making her a strong 'lady' of the Street.

  • Peter

As much as i like her as a character she will be no loss.

The NOTW had a different reason citing Jenny's difficulty in handling the srutiny of being in the public eye.

I am surprised she will be in the show for over a year before she leaves.

My favourite Violet moment was when the Dr's revealed to Eileen, Jason and Sean that she would not be able to have children again. Emotional moment.
