No 18 Betty Williams The woman without whom the Rovers Return would be a much sadder place, although there’d be a lot more space behind the bar without her. Saint Betty of the hot pots has been in Corrie, for, oh, forever it seems and I never want her to leave. She’s seen enough of life to keep her counsel to herself but makes her feelings clear on behaviour she doesn’t approve of in Coronation Street by tutting, raising her eyebrows and pulling her cardi across her very ample chest. A national treasure.

Betty is a national institution. I have her recipe for HotPot that was published in some national newspaper maybe 15 or 20 years ago. I never have tried it as it has meat in it, oh well. I love that whenever she is on screen she is carrying a Kleenex - has anyone else ever noticed that. How does she function behind the bar or in the kitchen with it stuck to her hand?
When I wrote to Betty for a signed pic once I asked for the recipe, she sent it, it was photocopied but still fab to have! :)
I think it's time Coronation Street thought about giving Betty a little storyline where she has to change her name back to the mighty TURPIN!
Betty Williams just doesn't sound right to me...(the same goes for Rita Sullivan!)
Betty should be in the Top 50 maybe even in the top 10 if only the writers would give her a storyline!! I agree with Ben(Elsie Tanner) about the whole Williams /Turnip thing.
