Top 50 Countdown of Favourite Corrie Characters - No 29

Mikebaldwin_2Mike Baldwin. Poor Mike, what an ending. For me, this Corrie jewel was a character with whom, it's fair to say, I had a love-hate relationship.

Tributes were lavished on Johnny Briggs as a fitting farewell to one of the Street's most revered characters and it seemed the whole nation discussed the tragedy of Alzheimer's  when he left earlier this year.

Here's what Nora wrote at the time. Just about sums him up I reckon. Nuff said.

Most famous for: Copping off with Deirdre, smoking big fat cigars, losing Alma and not treating staff so well, really. Oh and then there were the women. What do you think? Of his place in the list, I mean, not the women. Check out the rest of the Top 50 here. [Linda]

It's going to be very interesting/fun to see who the top 10 Corrie Favourites are going to be .... I guess I thought Mike Baldwin (and Ken Barlow) would be higher up on the list.

Here in Canada Mike is just about on his last legs, so I'm looking forward, only in a dramatic sense, to his end. He was a good character, full of energy and a nice mixture of decency and devilry. Terrible at hiring, though - was there ever a more surly, lazy, and dishonest bunch of employees as there were at the jeans and knicker factories?

I think that Johnny Briggs was a fantastic actor with the way he portrayed an Alzeihmers patient. My mum passed away with this disease and it brought back memories of her because of the way Johnny portrayed it.

My congrats to Johnny Briggs - he should win an award for this part.

I also think that he should have been higher on this list.

Mike Baldwin should be #2 as his portrayal by Johnny Briggs was the most consistent of any of the actor except maybe Betty Williams. You have unrated his impact severly.
