No. 50 Fred Elliot Coronation Street’s burly butcher Fred Elliot starts off our Top 50 Countdown of Favourite Corrie Characters which will run all the way through December. Fred, played by John Savident, first appeared on Corrie in 1994 when he tried to bribe the judge in a black pudding competition. Fred was Grand Master of the Weatherfield Square Dealers and senior partner in the Street racehorse, Betty's Hotshot. He died on his wedding day, on Audrey Roberts’ front door mat, before he could marry fiancée Bev Unwin.
Most famous for: His Cumberland ring, serial proposing to ladies of the street, I say asking women to marry him, and also for repeating his phrases. Should Fred be bottom of our Top 50 list, coming in at No 50 – what do you think? Check out the whole of our Top 50.
