What's your earliest Corrie memory?

Comments (20)

Geoffreyhughes7I think mine involves Stan Ogden and Eddie Yeats on the bins. I can also remember Ray Langton in his yard and a young Gail Tilsley and Suzie Birchall, the latter of whom joined in 1977. I bet a lot of you recall much further back than that. Why not share your memories here? [Linda]

Im only fourteen so...
probably five years ago, when David Platt was hanging out washing and accidently set it on fire. Then he ran through the flames to save his rabbit!

I`ve got loads of clear memories of mid-70`s storylines, like Mike Baldwin buying the newly-refurbished No5, and moving Bet lynch in as his "housekeeper"; Stan Ogden`s houdini act; Suzie Birchall cleaning Elsie`s chimney on the cheap by flinging a brick-on-a-string down the Odgen`s lum; Ray Langton and Deirdre Hunt get married; Annie Walker collapsing and falling down the stairs in the Rovers.

The earliest recollection I have is of Mavis Riley and Jerry Booth`s "will-they, won`t-they" relationship - which must`ve been around 1974 when I was 3.

When I was really little, about three or something, I used to call it 'cat-dog' because in the opening credits, there was a cat walking along past a garage, and a dog being walked around the corner I think, by it's owner. I don't really remember any storylines in particular from way back then though...!

My earliest memories are from the mid-60s I think. I remember Jed Stone living with Minnie Caldwell and I remember Elsie Tanner getting married to Steve Tanner (and I can remember being really excited about the TV Times special edition to mark the occasion. I was only about 8!)I also have a very clear memory of Harry Hewitt being crushed by the van - it had a big effect on me because I still think about it whenever anybody mentions using a carjack.

I got hooked by a ex-boyfriend who came over with his family from Wales. My earliest memory was crazy Don Brennan and all his weirdness. Geoffrey Hughes was the voice for the Paul character in "Yellow Submarine" by the way. I wonder what he is doing now?

Been trying to think back and recall some stories not already mentioned and I clearly remember Alan Bradley getting knocked down and killed by the Blackpool Tram while he was chasing Rita. I recall Ernest Bishop getting shot during the robbery at the factory. I'll never forget Hilda Ogden's "singing" when she was cleaning the Rover's.

Yes I can remember Hilda singing and her 'muriel' and Ernest getting shot. Also Elsie Tanner. Geoffrey Hughes is still a much love TV actor in the UK, he played a brilliant character called Twiggy in The Royle Family and was in Heartbeat after that, plus Keeping Up Appearances was v popular.

I remember it right from the early episodes, with Ena Sharples playing the harmonium at the Glad Tidings Mission, Florrie Lindley taking over the corner shop, Annie and Jack Walker running the Rovers, Elsie Tanner being regarded as a bit of a floozy, her layabout son Dennis, Ken Barlow being a snob about the sauce bottle on the table, and Emily Nugent (as she then was) working for Leonard Swindley at Gamma Garments.

Ena and Minnie walking down the street with Minnie trying to avoid stepping on the cracks in the pavement. Sometime in the 60s no doubt but I'm not sure when.

I remember a young Gail and Elsie Tanner living together. Gail was having an affair with a married man (she did not know he was married at the time)and she was getting named in the divorce. I remember very clearly her saying "my father will kill me" The writers forget stuff like that...but we don't!!

My earliest memory is of someone in bed smoking and setting fire to the place when they fell asleep. I've been watching Corrie proper since 97 - it was Les singing on the karaoke machine in his camper van (after Janice chucked him out) that got me hooked. Strange moment to get hooked on I know, but I've hardly missed an episode since

Ken's wife getting electrocuted with the iron......and also faint memories of Ena Sharples playing the organ....

I'm an 80s child, so my earliest memory is of Kevin Webster with a moustache! Didn't he crash his van or something? I also remember being ill in bed and seeing Percy Sugden shout at someone in a window!

Probably Mavis and Rita in the Kabin, Phyllis chasing Percy, Don and Ivy before she drove him away and Bet Lynch and Alec when they were together...Ah the 80's ;-)

My earliest, favourite memory is one i've never seen referred to in any book or review of the programme. It happened around 1964 and involved Len Fairclough being roughed up by 3 young hoodlums in the middle of the street while ken and perhaps harry hewitt and jerry booth watched on from their front windows. They wanted to go out and help but their wives wouldn't let them. Then out of nowhere comes stan ogden to the rescue (i'm sure this was his first ever appearance in the street) and the 3 punks are beaten and sent on their way, hilda relating to her soon to be neighbours how her stan likes a bit of biff,,,

I seem to recall a storyline in the early 1970s which had Stan Ogden, Ray Langton and Len Fairclough messing about on a boat. Or maybe not . . .

One of the earliest recollections I have was the storyline of Chalkie Whiteley winning a horse racing accumalation. and emigrating to Australia. Intermingled with this was also the plot of Len Fairclough arguing with Chalkie about not directing his mail.

My earliest memory is of Sally driving a "banger" and Kevin with his "tash." Also, Curly living above the corner shop with a girlfriend before heading back to school.

My first memory was watching the huge fuss of Gail marrying Martin Plat and thinking how much I thought Gail clearly resembled a turtle.
