Ex-Street star Suranne Jones (Karen MacDonald) will be appearing in the second series of her successful drama series Vincent starting next month on ITV1. But since that was in the can weeks ago, she has also been busy filming a new drama series by popular writer Kay Mellor (mother of another ex-Corrie star Gaynor Faye - Judy Mallett) based on an altogether more risqué premise. As I revealed on the lovely TV Scoop a couple of months back, in 'Strictly Confidential' she will be playing the part of sex therapist Linda Nelson and, much to her Dad's consternation, is about to shoot her first ever sex scenes.
"I’ve warned my dad," Suranne says, talking to the excellent Ian Wylie at the MEN, "and he said, 'I might not watch a few of those episodes. Just tell me when to look and when not to look.'"
To research the part Suranne had to view real life sex therapy sessions on DVD and also met some swingers before filming started. Earlier this year she finished work on another ITV1 Manchester-based drama called Dead Clever, co-starring Helen Baxendale, which has yet to be screened.
Suranne won't be short of friends on the set of Strictly Confidential. The first episode features Nikki Sanderson (Candice Stowe) as a newlywed who is having trouble satisfying her new husband, and later in the series Eva Pope (Tanya Pooley) will pop up to help with a case of auto-erotic asphyxiation. Eee bah gum tha' never got none o' that down Coronation Street!
