On This Day - September 24, 1999

In one of the most unlikely weddings since Curly married Racquel, Ashley Peacock said his vows with Maxine Heavey.  The wedding followed an eventful engagement when Ashley discovered his real father was Fred Elliott and then met his real mother Kathleen Gutteridge for the first time.  Touchingly, Beryl Peacock still took pride of place as the groom's mother.

The day was not without its tragedy.  While best man Gary Mallett was giving his speech, across the road at Number 9 his wife Judy lay dying from a blood clot, and above The Kabin Sharon Gaskell was attempting suicide.
