Debbie McAndrew played the wonderful Angie Freeman on Coronation Street until Angie left to pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer after she clashed one too many times with Mike Baldwin in the factory. Actress Debbie is now appearing on-stage in Willy Russell's comedy Stags and Hens at the Vic Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme until Saturday, August 12.
I'd love to see Angie Freeman make a return to Coronation Street. She was intelligent, sassy, straightforward - but ultimately she wanted her own career and was forced beyond the constraints of the cobbles to follow her dream. Doesn't seem like Corrie women can do that on the Street does it? Anyway, with the rumoured take-over of Underworld by singer Michelle Connor's two bruvvers, who's to know what's to happen at the knicker factory next?

Angie Freeman / Debbie McAndrew has long been a favourite character / actress of mine (and she is married to one of my favourite actors, Conrad Nelson.) They are part of 'Northern Broadsides' - http://www.northern-broadsides.co.uk/
a theatre company well worth seeing if you get the chance (quite a few actors who have appeared in Corrie have also appeared for Northern Broadsides)
Theoretically Angie still owns a share of Underworld.
When she moved to London Mike pleaded with her not to sell her share, and she agreed. The idea was that she would still do design work for Underworld. However, I think this has all been forgotten about (or ignored) by the storyliners. I can't recall there ever have been any mention since that Angie had sold her share...can anyone confirm or correct me on this?
Nick - good point. I do remember Angie buying into the factory but can't recall her selling her share. Maybe she didn't and it's been forgotten? Would be a great way for her to return to the show...:-))))
Nick, you're absolutely right. I checked with the 40th Corrie book and Angie did buy into Underworld with Mike and there's no reference to her ever having sold her share.
