Why hasn't Coronation Street featured any lesbians? Much has been made of Corrie’s first gay character, Todd Grimshaw as well as screaming queen Sean the knicker-stitching boy. So isn’t the time right for some lady love on the cobbles? I’m not talking about girl-on-girl action – that’s a totally different blog – what I mean is, couldn’t one of the Corrie women find companionship, friendship and love with another woman instead of being let down, time and time again, by a hapless, feckless fella? Christine Geraghty’s fab book about women and soaps says much on Corrie female relationships, but what do you think? Perhaps Eileen could meet up with the woman of her dreams and live happily ever after in a way that she hasn’t been able to with a fella so far? Maybe Eileen and Gail should put their differences behind them and get together, what do you think?

They do say every woman is a lesbian, excpet those who don't know it yet.
Who's "they?" That sounds like stupid wishful thinking on the part of a lot of blokes. Give me a break.
I agree, Corrie should have a realistic storyline about this.
Hi I am a Canadian and watch Coronation Street on the CBC. I love it!!! We also have a New show that runs sorta at the same time called 11 Cameras and it is a soap opera that takes place through web camera conversations. All I can say is 11 Cameras has replaced Coronation Street as my favorite soap opera. You can watch the first episode online at 11cameras.com

Haven't we had enough gender-bending already for one small street? Now I tell you what would be a novel introduction... a happy marriage that lasts. A real writing challenge.
Doesn't Roy and Hayley have a succesful happy marriage?
I think if they make Violet into a Lesbian, the theme will become very overwhelming for a short time, then she will move away to be with her lady love, IE Todd Grimshaw.
What makes Sean endearing is that yes, we KNOW he's gay, and so far in Canada anyway, most of his 'dates' have not been true loves, so we see the happy go lucky guy, being all campy and fun for the most part. I know he's going to get into something serious with a three way affair with a man and woman, but really, his 'gayness' doesn't overwhelm the character as he came into it Gay. Unlike Todd and if Violet turns, so to speak, BECAME gay, so it was HUGE to the fans because it was and would be out of character for that character to suddenly profess their homosexuality. So if they're going to do it, they should have a new person arrive and be seen to be a solid person, who just happens to be a Lesbian!! It will ensure the longevity of that character and she can be shown to be a regular part of the street. Otherwise, it will all be about titlation, some huge emotions thrown about, then will fizzle out as it cannot possibly be sustained in a long lasting story/character line.
Then perhaps the poster who asks isn't there already enough of the gender bending stuff been played out already?
Maybe...
Maybe not.
Yes, a stable middle aged couple who take over the Kabin when Rita and Norris retire or better yet the corner shop from Dev but not Gail and Eileen - that would put us in fantacy land for sure.
