There’s a lovely, long interview in The Manchester Evening News with Betty Driver who plays Betty Turpin on Coronation Street. She talks about her life as an actress and about how she won her part on the cobbles in 1969. Did you know she first auditioned for the part of Hilda Ogden? And there’s good news for fans of Betty as it seems she has no desire to hang up her hot-pot and retire. She tells the paper: “So as long as they want me, I'm happy to stay. The Street is like home and they really are my family."

God bless ya Betty...I hope you stay forver...How old is she now? In her 80's???
I have been laughed at many times for saying to my friends that Betty Driver who plays Betty on Coronation Street is the same Betty Driver who many years ago was on the radio with Wilfred Pickles on his show 'Ave a Go" playing the piano if I remember rightly. Am I wrong in stating this? Michael Wareham, Corrie Lover, Canada
