Who's the best Corrie writer?

Abbott_2Some of the best writers in the business have served their time on the Street, haven't they? Who's your favourite? I really love Paul Abbott’s work and have been fascinated to learn that he worked on Corrie for a good few years, after first being taken on as a story editor and being promoted to craft entire episodes. (He says he had great fun working on a trial script where Jack got a window cleaning round.) He went on to create Children’s Ward in with Kay Mellor, which featured some of the people we have seen on our screens in Weatherfield over the years, not to mention the jaw-droppingly wonderful Shameless which is home to many a good thesp with some connection or other to Corrie. I’d so like to know which episodes of Coronation Street Paul Abbott worked on – to watch them again and marvel at all the the signs of genius he has displayed throughout his career. If you are a scriptwriter in waiting you could do worse than read up on Paul’s inspirational story, here, here and here. The Guardian piece is particularly informative, quoting Paul on his opinions of the strength of writing in the bosom of his ex employer these days (well as of February 7 last year anyway - that's an anniversary of the birthday of Charles Dickens by the way - and what a writer of soap he was! Sorry I'm going off the point a bit, aren't I? But how do I know, well it's my birthday too, see.)  Now where can I find my nearest writing group? [Linda Jones]

Adele Rose was my favourite. Her storylines were on a human scale - not the overblown comic book characters that are on offer today.

Daran Little and John Stevenson were my faves before they left. Now it's Jonathan Harvey.

I think John Stevenson & Peter Whalley are my favourite because of they have contributed to the Ken-Deirdre-Mike love triangle and wrote dramatic episodes for the street.
They were only members of the veteran writing team that survived Brian Park's reign as Producer.

don t ask me , i timed corries appearance on friday 30th november, 21 minutes out of a half hour slot.8 minutes of ads, makes the stories seem loose and sloppy.we are being treated to 6 minuts of ads prior to the first line of dialogue.
how does this compare wih times gone by..?
i find myself losing interest after the break
but having watched it for over 30 years maybe its just fatigue and the obvious competitive nature with other programmes..that dissolves my attention..preferred it when it was aparody of life not an immitation.
