Hilda Ogden has to be my favourite Coronation Street character of all time, part of my childhood, if I'm honest. And she has come out with some belting words of wisdom. My most memorable is a clip much loved by the oft-repeated compilation shows which grace the latest show milestone or celebrate the Street's history or feisty women. It's when our heroine snogs Stan. He asks about her lipstick only to be told it tastes of "woman, Stanley. Woman." Pure class. Telly doesn't get any better than that does it? I've found some more great Hilda-isms and a few more choice quotes besides, here. They just don't make 'em like this wonderful woman any more do they? (Well apart from Eileen Grimshaw, don't forget!) What's your most fondly remembered piece of Corrie dialogue? [Linda Jones]

You know when Hilda Ogden left The Street - I thought the show might end. I actually thought that the show was really built around her character in the early days of my viewing Corrie. As we all know, Coronation Street survived. Then, when Bet Lynch left The Street, I had a similar thought but realized if the show could survive Hilda leaving, it probably could survive Bet's departure. And obviously, I'm still watching the shows each week. I've been viewing the episodes since the early 1980's from Toronto - and as most of you already know, we are several months behind in the episodes.
"I'm not his girlfriend, I'm his inspiration!"
as per Bet Lynch. My all time fav character.
Bet Lynch: "That's not a smile, it's the lid on a scream"
on Alec Gilroy:
"He's so twisted, he could hide behind a spiral staircase"
(Rita Fairclough)
It's a good few years ago that Curly was dancing with one of the factory girls who was of Caribbean origin and she said to him, "It's true what they say about binmen, you do have a great sense of rhythm."
Vera Duckworth commenting on the length of Liz MacDonald's skirt "Oh that one with her skirt up under her armpits!"
or
Jack affectionately calling Vera "my little Aberdeen Angus" (... that's a cow isn't it??)
Not an exact quote but early 1970's Hilda Ogden had threatened a work to rule at The Rovers.
Annie Walker asked Betty (I think) "to remind Hilda that a work to rule still suggested a modicum of activity"
also
Hilda's response to Stan Ogden's question - what's that lip stick taste of? - "Woman Stanley, Woman!"
outstanding !!
Thanks for the reminder re....
Hilda's response to Stan Ogden's question - what's that lip stick taste of? - "Woman Stanley, Woman!"
Another really good one!!!!
Hope more people post re the Fav Corrie Quotations ... I am quite sure there are many many more great quotations from the Corrie Shows .....
Gail came home with Phil and David had his music on
Gail: David! When i have people over for coffee i do not expect to be greeted by this noise!
David: By coffee you mean sex?
Gail: GET UPSTAIRS NOW!
David: What, me or him?
I've got several favourite Corrie quotes.
"Skirt no bigger than a belt, too much eyeliner and roots as dark as her soul." (Blanche Hunt about Liz McDonald.
Les: "What the heck's that noise?"
Emily: It's a didgeridoo."
Les: Well from now on, it's a didgeridon't."
Hilda: Percy, I've come in here more times than I care to remember, cold, wet, tired out, not a penny in me purse and the sight of them ducks and that muriel, well they've kept my hand away from the gas tap and that's a fact."
