Dr Who Writer Turned Down by Corrie

Dalek_1 Norris_1Dr Who writer Russell T Davies has been talking to The Independent about his career as a scriptwriter which began with an apprenticeship at Granada TV.  His first job was on Children's Ward working under Paul Abbott (writer of Shameless), and Kay Mellor (writer of Fat Friends and mother of Gaynor Faye who played Judy Mallett on Corrie). Russell told the paper that he begged to be allowed to write for Coronation Street, but is glad to have been turned down. "If they'd said yes I'd never have left." Ah, but what fun it would have been to see Norris chased around the Kabin by Daleks.
And long-time Corrie fans might remember a Rovers barmaid called Anita Reynolds who's going to turn up in the new Dr Who series...

Elisabeth Sladen appeared in Coronation Street in 1970 as Rovers Return barmaid Anita Reynolds. Elisabeth was in Corrie for only six episodes so you’d be forgiven if you don’t remember her. She’s probably better know as the Time Lord's plucky assistant Sarah Jane Smith, a role she’s reprising for a guest appearance in the new series of Doctor Who.
