Haway the Lasses

Three ex-Corrie actresses are to team up in new BBC drama.  Denise Welch who played Rovers landlady Natalie Horrocks, Jill Halfpenny who played Martin Platt’s NHS lover Rebecca and Angela Griffin who played hairdresser Fiona are set to star in a drama about a North school on the academic scrap heap. Denise was offered the role by her old Corrie boss, Brian Park, who works for Shed. But did you know that as well as Coronation Street, Denise and Jill have worked together before – on the set of Byker Grove! "Jill was 12 when I first worked with her," Denise told The Journal. Set in Rochdale, Waterloo Road is being produced by Shed Productions, the company behind ratings-winning series, Footballers' Wives and Bad Girls, and features both Denise and Jill as teachers.

"I play a useless French teacher," Denise told the paper. "I mean she really is appalling”. The series will consist of eight one-hour shows and will be broadcast sometime in the new year.
